Hong Kong ` Part One

Today I would like to tell you some differences between HK and US(Mississippi). I would surround the transportation this time.

First of all, it is not an easy thing to find a parking space. As all of you know that HK is a small place, but there is many people! So you may need to park a little bit far away from the place that you want to go or you may have to drive two more rounds to look for someone who is going to leave. Also, we need to pay the berthage(the bill of parking space). These are the reason that why most of teenager don't know how to drive when they are in the age that can go to learn to drive.

Next, the mainly reason should be there are different kinds of public transport in HK, bus, minibus, taxi, subway, ferry, streetcar etc. It is very convenient. You can go to your goal without driving and it is much cheaper! That's why many of us don't know how to drive!

In the other hands, we have to drive to everywhere in US. So student can have the paper test at high school and most of them will take the test! Then their parents will teach them how to drive, but in HK, we can't be taught by our parents. We need to go to diving school.

Now I have to learn how to drive as I may spend few more years in here, but I surely love to be a passenger more than a driver!

  2. Hi Kathryn,
    I understand what you are saying. My husband is from a large city in Germany, and many Germans never drive, because they do not have to. Public transportation is so easy, and actually MORE convenient, there. He first learned to drive after moving to Mississippi, too. I am happy that we begin to have SOME public transportation here, though. It is not much, yet, but it is a good start.

  4. Obviuslly public transportation in Oxford is a big concern for all of us, and a big surprise too when we arrive. The distances between places are long enough even in the city and off course is impossible to think know the surrounders. Before my arrival I had in mind plans to go to New Orleans, Memphis and Atlanta, and maybe see my daughter in North Carolina, but now I realize is almost impossible leaves town without a car. I think we have to organize at least one trip to Memphis for touring the city and see museums and other places.
    Back to Kathryn, my city is small too, but almost everybody has a car! The rush hour is awful, you could easylly spend more than one hour to go 2 miles!

  5. To all of you::
    ha, I surprise that there are so many of you agree with me xddd
    But in my "dictionary", everything has both sides, that's mean I will try to think the other ways to make me feel better. Although big city/country has the transportation problems, there are many other things merit for us to focus! :)
